What this calculator does—and does not do

The calculation is local, deterministic, and inspectable. The historical series is embedded and versioned with the page—no client-side API keys, live quotes, or brittle market calls.

01

Historical lens

The model replays calendar-year total returns from the chosen start year through 2025. It converts each year's return to an equivalent monthly rate and adds contributions at month-end. That preserves the annual sequence while approximating within-year timing.

02

Future lens

The model applies the editable annual rate for the selected number of years. The rate stays constant, so the output is a scenario, not a forecast, probability range, or guarantee.

03

Cross-market limits

S&P 500 and Nifty 50 results are shown in your chosen display currency without foreign-exchange conversion. FTSE 100 is forward-only until a comparable full total-return series is embedded. Taxes, fees, inflation, tracking error, and access costs are excluded.

04

Fund-style options

The 60/40 and 40/60 choices combine the same annual U.S. stock and 10-year Treasury return series, rebalanced annually. They are not specific mutual funds and do not include expenses.

Reference points

Where the replay data comes from

S&P 500 total returns and 10-year U.S. Treasury total returns come from NYU Stern's historical-return dataset. Nifty 50 total returns through 2023 come from NSE Indices' 2024 whitepaper; NSE's 2025 market review supplies 2024 and 2025. Values are stored locally so the same inputs always produce the same result.

Does the historical lens replay actual market returns?

Yes, for the options marked historical. It replays published calendar-year total returns through 2025. Monthly contribution timing inside each year is approximated from that year's return.

Can I compare S&P 500, Nifty 50, and FTSE 100 values directly?

Only as a return-assumption illustration. The calculator displays every outcome in one chosen currency and does not model exchange-rate movements, taxes, fund fees, or access costs.

Are the balanced options actual mutual funds?

No. They are simplified stock-and-bond model mixes designed to make allocation tradeoffs easier to explore.
